Vital Records

"Residents of the State intending to be joined in marriage shall record notice of their intentions in the office of the clerk of the municipality in which at least one of them resides."  This license is valid in any community in Maine for a period of 90 days from the date the intentions are filed.
 
Out-of-State Residents must file their Notice of Intentions (VS2-A) in any municipal office. The license is valid in any community within the State of Maine for a period of 90 days from the date the intentions are filed. 

Previous Marriages If either applicant has been previously married, a certified copy of the death or divorce decree, whichever ended the previous marriage, must be presented to the clerk where the intentions of marriage are filed. The certified copy must be presented to the clerk prior to the processing of the marriage license.

A certified copy of a divorce decree may be obtained from the clerk of courts in the county where the divorce was filed. The clerk of courts will certify the document using an embossed seal. A certified copy of a death certificate may be obtained from the clerk in the town/city of the place of death. The clerk will certify the document using an embossed seal. Photocopies of either record are not accepted.

The cost of the marriage license is $40.00.  Certified copies of the completed license may be obtained from the clerk for a fee of $15.00 for one copy and $6.00 for each additional copy obtained at the same time.

  • Birth/Death Certificates Certified copies of birth certificates of residents born in or whose parents were living in Yarmouth at the time of birth may be obtained from the clerk for a fee of $15.00 for one copy and $6.00 for each additional copy obtained at the same time. 
    The same applies to death certificates of any person who dies in Yarmouth or who dies elsewhere but was a resident of Yarmouth at the time of death.
